Sound Insulation is easy to understand from the literal meaning, which is to isolate the sound transmission between two spaces or objects. Maybe everyone has had this experience,when you went to a friend’s house and found that you could hear the sound from next door. In the rented house you could hear the sound from next door. When you studied in the room, the noise from next door bothered you, so is this very bad? These are the cases where the sound insulation treatment is very poor. And for the soundproofing effect of the KTV is better. The sound in the room cannot be heard when the door is closed. But not all of the KTV make the sound insulation treatment.
Actually, sound insulation is common in our daily life. Everyone knows about it. Sometimes the real estate agent will mention that the sound insulation of the house is very good, and it is comfortable to live there. And it helps promote the deals. So how to get the good sound insulation effect?
The general way to make better sound insulation is to use thicker walls, ceilings and floors. In order to make better sound insulation efficiency of two adjacent rooms, we should not use fixed connection between the rooms. These rooms like two independent boxes. And we will use different insulation materials for different sound frequency in different places.
For example, in the recording room or on the stage, we should use sound barriers to separate the musical instruments. The sound barriers can prevent the intrusion tone which may affect the performance. Sometimes the floor (or stage) will cause sound insulation failure. So the microphone should be mounted on a shockproof frame to avoid noise and shock.
The only way to isolate low-frequency sound is to place the sound source in a separate room. If you need better performance on sound insulation, the room should have independent walls. Each wall will be made of three-layers plasterboard or similar structure. The floor must be floating . For high frequency (for example, higher than 300-400 Hz), we can use sound barrier. However, the effect of this approach is very limited.
