Partial of the sound sources in the ballroom are music played and amplified through speakers and spread away, while some part are played by bands and vocals on site, which both electric and natural sound exist at the same time. The reverberation time of the ballroom can be controlled at about 1.0s, the low frequency reverberation time can be 1.2-1.3 times of the intermediate frequency RT, the high frequency can be consistent with the reverberation time of intermediate frequency sound, and the background noise of the ballroom can be controlled within NR-30 to NR-35, or within 40-45dBA.

Pay attention to the following issues for the acoustic design of the ballroom:

(1) Regarding the body shape design of the space, avoid the flat cross-sectional shapes such as arc walls and vaulted dome that easily cause sound focusing defect;

(2) In the selections of decoration materials, high, medium and low frequency sound absorption materials should be adopted together to obtain good reverberation time frequency characteristics. Since ballrooms are usually decorated with a large number of thin plates, it is extremely necessary to prevent excessive absorption of low-frequency sounds due to resonance of the thin plates.

(3) The interface near the stage is suitable to apply sound absorption treatment. It helps to enhance the sound transmission for the sound reinforcement system and prevent howling.

(4) The maintenance structure of the ballroom should have good sound insulation performance. On the one hand, it is to prevent the introduction of external noise. On the other hand, due to the high indoor sound pressure level of the ballroom, for example the discotheque can reach up to 105 dBA, it is necessary to prevent the dance hall noise from interfering with the neighboring buildings and surrounding environment.

At present, the problem of noise interference caused by the ballrooms is very common which should be paid serious attention. Ordinary ballrooms can use 240MM thick brick walls as the outer wall. Discotheque should adopt at least 370mm thick brick walls, or 240mm+120mm double-wall structure, leaving 100mm gap in the middle. The roof should adopt reinforced concrete slabs with thickness more than 120 mm.
